Friday the 13th
will never be the same
as terrorist chainsaws
cut through earth

Our civilization hijacked
Criminals devour society
attempting to put
its citizens to eternal rest

The Earth weeps
Is there no respite?

Suddenly a miracle happens
humanity knits together
grasping each other
in friendships grip

Here are the heroes
lifting humankind 
with the soul’s bootstraps
declaring fear obsolete

Guardians of the future
sacrifice their faces
lift them skyward
